Discounts and Premiums

for Special Industry Advertising in The Washington Post Magazine

Frequency Discounts

  • Frequency discounts are applied to black-and-white space rates and calculated according to the following schedule. Color charges are not subject to frequency discounts.
  • 3 Issuesless 19%
    6 Issuesless 22%
    13 Issuesless 27%
    26 Issuesless 29%
    39 Issuesless 30%
    51 Issuesless 34%
  • Frequency discounts are based on the number of issues in which an advertiser participates during a one-year period. A separate Retail Magazine annual agreement must be signed in advance to qualify for frequency discounts.
  • For full-page advertisers, the minimum rateholder is 1/3 page full run, or a full page in the VIP Edition. Fractional space advertisers, who regularly run a smaller unit, may use their normal unit size as a rateholder to gain frequency discounts.

Premium Positions

  • Premium positions in full-page units only, subject to availability and publisher’s approval. Premium position pages are charged at the advertiser’s space and color rates, plus the following premiums:
  • Back Cover$3,495
    Inside Front Cover$2,675
    Inside Back Cover$1,775
    Centerspread$3,495
    Other Specified Page$1,295

Color and Bleed

  • Color is available throughout The Magazine.
  • Two-color ads assume black and one additional color, either a standard process color or one that can be matched using standard process colors.
  • Non-standard PMS and metallic inks are available at a noncommissionable charge of $4625 for each ink per page. These are colors and inks that cannot be made using normal four-color process inks. Special inks must be requested when space is reserved. The special ink premium is in addition to standard color charges.
  • Bleed is available in the full-run edition in black-and-white or color for the following units only: two-page spread, full page, 2/3 page, 1/2 page horizontal, 1/2 page vertical, and 1/3 page vertical.
  • In the VIP Edition, bleed is available in black-and-white or color for two-page spread and full-page units only.
  • There is no additional charge for bleed.

Remnant Rate

Remnant rate advertising is sold on a space available basis at 40% off the open black-and-white space rate. Color charges are also discounted at 40% off. No additional space discounts or color credits may be applied to remnant charges. Remnant rate advertising does not fulfill any advertising or Magazine annual agreements or monthly earned rates. Availability of remnant space is at the publisher’s discretion.
