Special Industry Advertising Rates

Rate Qualifications - The Special Industry advertising rates apply to the following types of advertising: Travel/Resort, Co-Op, Local Broadcast and Cable, Non-Local Retail and Non-Local Museums and Theaters.

Specific requirements for Travel/Resort and Co-Op advertising are listed below. Local Retail advertisers should refer to the Retail advertising rate schedules.

The local rate area is comprised of the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia, and the counties of Pennsylvania that border the state of Maryland (Chester, Lancaster, York, Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Bedford and Somerset). All other advertisers should refer to the General advertising rate schedule.

Co-Op Advertising Qualifications

  • Minimum ad size: 10 column inches
  • The advertisement must be paid for in part or in whole by supplier (manufacturer and/or distributor) funds.
  • The advertisement must establish the local point of purchase by listing one or more independent retailers with retail outlets in The Washington Post retail trading area. In certain circumstances, an 800 number is accepted in lieu of dealer listings, subject to The Washington Post’s approval.
  • The dealer listing is limited to participating retailers only. A copy of the co-op program or a letter of intent specifying the level of participation required by the retailer must be made available to The Washington Post upon request.
  • Advertisements offering products strictly for commercial use do not qualify for the Special Industry rate.
  • Automotive aftermarket dealer association advertisers qualify for Special Industry rates.

Travel/Resort Advertising Qualifications

The Special Industry rates apply to hotels and all resorts, chambers of commerce, tourist boards, tourist commissions, economic development offices, and visitor bureaus. These rates also apply to all travel agents promoting their own services. Travel Agent single product advertising of a General rate brand (e.g., airline, train, car rental, etc.) is billed at the General rate. Travel Agent multi-product advertising that includes two or more General rate advertisers (e.g., cruise line, airline, train, car rental, etc.) is billed at the Special Industry rate.

All advertising in The Washington Post is subject to our terms and conditions.
